Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 3, Episode 1: Laws of Nature

I was waiting for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to come back and I am happy to say that it did not disappoint with this season premiere. Ward and May were sadly absent, but the rest of the crew was shining brightly. Mac is more of a soldier, Skye is accepting her role as the new guide of the inhumans. Hunter and Bobbi are reconciling and Coulson is coping with being a permanent righty in spectacular ways. The best performance we got this week was from Fitz. Holy crap did he blow it out of the water. With Ward becoming probably the most complex of the show’s characters, he has definitely made Fitz into my favorite.

He was so determined. The monolith took his best friend and possible love of his life and we was not going to just take that lying down. Even though we still don’t know anything, we got a glimpse of what’s going on with Simmons and it’s very interesting to say the least. These characters are becoming more and more endearing, which is saying a lot when you consider how slow this show began. Fortunately it’s been on a constant upward slope, there was even a small mention of Ant-Man.

Rosalind and her guys are kind of interesting, but the “Spy Vs. Spy” things kind of aged out last season with the “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Hydra. The inhumans are what matters now. The television premiere of the rogue inhuman, Lash was pretty awesome. I want to know how he’s going to fit into everything. Or how the inhumans are going to change the MCU as a whole, considering the projection Fitz and Bobbi put together. In the comics, terrigen doesn’t harm humans, but here it kills the hell out of them. How’s that gonna play out with it being so widespread into Earth’s ecosystem now. Are a lot of people just going to start dropping dead or what?

With that unfortunate contract with Fox still active, Marvel can’t use mutants. This is clearly their way of compensating. It would be better if they could do both, but I suppose this can work just as well. The inhuman characters aren’t nearly as popular as the X-Men, but we’ll see. The only thing I really see now is a need for them to start integrating the happenings of this show into the movies. They’ve been doing the opposite since the start, but this inhuman thing feels like a pretty big deal. I hope they’re smart enough to at least mention it in Captain America: Civil War. I know Joss Whedan was against Coulson’s return, but it happened so Kevin Feige is going to have to deal with it.
