Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 2, Episode 13: One of Us
Skye really is the primary focus of this season. They weren’t kidding around when they said No complaints though, it brings better stakes to the series, they’re constantly running and the threat of super powered enemies is staying above the team’s heads.
Bobbi seems to be feeling some type of remorse for her lying to her friends and especially Hunter. On the other hand, Mack seems to not be faltering in the slightest. Whatever their secret mission is involving the “real S.H.I.E.L.D.,” it appears it matters to him more than pretty much anything else. For a self-proclaimed hater of violence, he sure did choke out a friend with no hesitation last week.
As far as super powered enemies, did anyone else think that the enemies had some of the worst superpowers possible? I mean they are REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to making comic book connections. Angmar the Screamer? Who was looking that deep into comics to think this guy mattered enough to put on the show? The sad part is the fact that he was easily the most dangerous of the group.
Carla Faye Gideon is some E list Daredevil character that I barely remembered. Hopefully that means they’re doing everything they can to connect it to the upcoming Netflix series. Did anyone else think of Meg from the “Supergriffins” episode of Family Guy when they showed her? What threat was she? The agents are all trained in hand to hand combat and I’m sure they’ve taken down people with knives before.
The other guys were more or less random space fillers to make the group bigger. All in all the group wasn’t a very big threat to our heroes, but it was a fun exercise in pacing. I think the writers are getting the hang of what they can actually accomplish in 44 minutes. Cal is always a lot of fun to see. Hearing about what he did to himself with chemistry brings him much closer to his roots as Doctor Hyde in the comics.
The strange man with no eyes made another appearance. I hope they explain his deal soon, he seems to be a human version of Lockjaw, the doglike member of the Inhuman Royal Family. I need more inhuman interaction! That’s what I looking forward to the most this season and next. He was pretty d*ckish with the “You’re not one of us. You’re just a science experiment,” comment. Aren’t the inhuman’s science experiments? I swear Vin-Tak explained that last week.
It was a good episode though. The group is constantly building in the strength of their bonds of trust and togetherness (except the liars of course) and the look into Agent May’s past was especially fascinating, as limited as it was. I expect the rest of this season to be pretty hard core if the last few episodes are any indication.
