The Muppets: Season 1, Episode 3: Bear Left, Then Bear Write

While puppets of all sorts appeal to children, the Muppets themselves have never been intended to cater to anything less then an adult audience. They’ve raised the bar though, and yet another week have tossed out some glorious not child friendly humour. Maturing to an entirely new level, the movie morals of friendship and perserverence rising above all else have been upgraded to realistic run ins. Piggy and Kermit have transcended the sappy on again off again love saga for the more believable broken up but working together anyways drama. Instead of Fozzy rockin lame jokes, he is one. Gonzo has left the chickens behind for a stab at something real with… Debbie- a new Muppet face almost as pretty as Kermit’s current Pig.
The cast of Muppets over the years has grown slowly but surely, and for the most part with some delightful additions. I can’t wait to see more of Kermit’s new interest. One cast addition, however, has left me a bit unsure. The Muppets have always been misfits and losers, there in lies their charm after all, but the new I.T. guy? Bad enough that he seems to be an old school dweeb with computer skills instead of the more charming and laughably geektastic fellow he could have been. Even worse that he comes with creeper eyes via some weird blinky pupil action. *Shudder.* Straight squigs me out. His complete lack of respect for personal boundries and social interaction skills seems more potential stalker then loveable.
The season is still new though, and in three episodes, only one thing has left me less then tickled. So I say viva la Muppet! Its a much needed break in my week.
