Community: Season 6, Episode 10: Basic RV Repair and Palmistry

Abed episodes are always my favorites. He tests the limits of what entertainment is and can be through his use of fourth wall breaking. As he believes everything is a TV show, he’s the perfect character fora comedy show. A lot of people love the Marvel Comics character Deadpool, but his fourth wall breakage pales in comparison to the mighty Abed Nadir. At least in Deadpool’s world, there are people with super powers all over the place and it makes sense that someone would be able to do something like this and it is endearing and often hilarious. However, Abed is in a world that is supposed to be a parallel of ours. No one has powers at all and no one believes there is a fourth wall to be broken.

That’s what makes Abed special. Can you imagine having a friend or associate or even knowing someone that acted the way Abed does? Someone who constantly referenced television and saw every endeavor and action as a potential plot line? That’s what Abed did and even though it is actually a TV series, one should be able to understand why his friends tend to think he is mentally ill. They love him, so they put up with his shenanigans and he actually is more than a little bit useful. He’s almost the opposite of Dean Pelton in that way. The flashback plot was fantastic and Franky’s solution was brilliant. I really can’t state enough, how much I love Yahoo for picking up this series after cancellation.

The Dean, as usual, is the source of the problems. How is it that he still has a job? His need to purchase a giant hand for some ridiculous plan of his has resulted in the need to travel to a seller’s house for it. Elroy miscalculates the milage and suddenly the gang is trapped on the side of the road. There is even a small commentary of how much people need their mobile devices as no one is willing to sacrifice battery power for the sake of the RV staying charged.

One of the things that stood out to me was the ending scene. There is usually some type of stinger that shows what’s been going on elsewhere. Chang’s random covered in feathers gag was funny, but the married couple arguing over the husband’s habit of purchasing oversized items was hilarious. It was even funnier to see the reasoning behind it. Guest stars and brilliant jokes all around. This show has lost none of its flavor in the transition to online streaming.
