The Strain: Season 2, Episode 12: Fallen Light

As the penultimate episode of this season, The Strain looks like it could go in a very interesting direction for the season finale next week. Who would have thought there would be an army of prisoners fighting an army of strigoi (vampires)? Quinlan seems to be much more of a bad*ss than the powerfully underutilized Vaughn. Vaughn seemed amazing, but kind of died in a disappointing way before we got to see how awesome he could’ve been. That’s the world of this show though: no one is truly safe. At least not anyone outside of the main cast.

It’s been a world of heartbreak this week as both Ephraim and Fet get shot down by Nora and Dutch respectively. Even Professor Setrakian gets told turned down yet again by people who hold the item he desires the most. Next week’s auction should be very interesting, especially since Quinlan doesn’t appear to trust anyone involved whatsoever. I actually think this will be the end of Mr. Creem as well. His greed is putting him in a very difficult spot between a rock and a hard place. Personally, I wouldn’t want anything to do with that particular auction.

The one things I can definitely say has improved is the lack of involvement of Zach lately. He was getting to be WAY too annoying for the first two thirds or so of the season. Now that his father is going dark in a lot of ways, maybe he sees that his behavior is largely unacceptable and will get his life together.

This show is giving us a much needed view outside of the annoying and repetitive world of the romantic vampire that we haven’t seen since 30 Days of Night. Seeing as how the show is already renewed for season three. It seems as though the world appreciates it. Vampires are monsters that eat humans. The Strain is definitely reminding us of that. Let’s hope we get at least three more seasons. This episode is the calm before the storm and I’m totally pumped for next week’s finale!
