Gotham: Season 2, Episode 1: Rise of the Villains: Damned if You Do…

Gotham0201

They chose a really good place to pick up from last season. They showed Bruce’s failed attempt to get into his father’s secret office and they did a great job of showing every character’s whereabouts. Bullock has quit and Gordon is on traffic detail. It’s just a testament to how corrupt the city of Gotham is. I also like how Gordon has to constantly compromise his integrity to get things done. Regardless of how horrible it may seem, he’s lucky to have a friend like Penguin. It’s just interesting that Bruce was the one that had to point it out to him. He must sacrifice for the greater good.

The introduction of the latest villain and his sister were interesting. Clearly this Theo Galavan and his beautiful sister Tabitha are genius types. Very dangerous sorts. They haven’t revealed too much of their plan, but with Jerome (who they’re leading everyone to believe is the Joker) and Barbara (who is vastly different from her comic counterpart) involved, I’m interested in seeing what they do next. His human bomb was also impressive. He stole inmates from Arkham and he seems to be a shoe-in for this season’s big bad. From his city connections, wealth and lack of mafia ties, he looks like he might be a bigger threat than Falcone, Maroni or Fish Mooney.

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s actually in the room Bruce and Alfred finally got into, because they didn’t really show anything but that letter. I would’ve also liked to see more of Bullock and Nygma. We got decent glimpses of what they’re currently up to, but not too much more than that. They have managed to make good use of their characters and every one of them is interesting, I just hope they don’t go too far in using all of Batman’s villains nearly twenty years before he actually becomes Batman. It would be disappointing to discover Batman is only capable of beating up all of his enemies because he’s ten years younger than them all.

All in all though, Gotham is back! Yes!
