Gotham: Season 2, Episode 3: The Last Laugh

GothamS02E03

This episode of Gotham was going so well until that ending. I’m so confused now. What’s going on with everyone suddenly going crazy and stabby? Just seeing Jerome on TV drove people to insanity? I don’t get it. However, this show has been fairly thorough, so they’ll get the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully Jerome’s “curse” will be expanded upon in the future. I did like seeing his death stare though, the pale skin and blood on his lips definitely showed the show’s intention. He was their Joker, or a reasonable facsimile. Maybe all of that insanity he caused might lead into him creating the kid who becomes the Joker. I hope that’s the case, because I definitely got some serious Joker and Harley vibes from him and Barbara and I loved it. Even though they killed him, he had a really enjoyable run. After his brief performance last season, they definitely had to bring him back and they did an excellent job.

Joker and Harley weren’t the only vibes I got. The Galavans definitely had a bit of a Lannister thing going on. Tabitha seems to be jealous of Theo and Barbara after getting along well with the psycho blonde last week. These Galavans are shaping up to be interesting villains. I’ve never heard of them, but maybe that will change. I suspect they have some significance as far as the comics are concerned. Considering this is only the third episode of the series, I’m very excited to see where this is going. The Penguin has shown up here or there, so I also want to see what his role is. Besides, how cool was it to see that Bullock still has no respect for him? Shows what a man will do out of rage for his loved ones.

Bruce and Selina are just as awkward as ever. She’s kind of a jerk and he’s a puppy dog. I wonder if he’s going to remember the fact that she murdered a guy in front of him, because that happened. He’s seen some sh*t in his short life, so maybe that excites him, but I would definitely be keeping a wide berth!

Poor Alfred. He and Lesley have definitely had a romance in the comics, so it was interesting to see how much he was into her at first meeting. Unfortunately for him, there’s the little issue of her dating his ward’s only other friend, James Gordon. It was sad, but led to some laughs as Alfred assumed Bruce knew in the end. That tension definitely needed to be diffused and that was perfect. Maybe now, Jim will be more attentive in his relationship, especially since Sarah Essen has been avenged.
