iZombie: Season 1, Episode 10: Mr. Berserk

Why can’t Liv ever eat the brains of any decent people? I mean I understand that everyone has flaws, but jeez. Even the mother (who was probably the best person so far) she ate before was a defiant teen who made bad decisions. This reporter this week didn’t seem nearly as terrible of a person when we last saw her working with Major. She’s one of the few bodies that we got a chance to see alive and even though she was pretty crappy toward Clive, she didn’t seem as abrasive as Liv became. I guess you never know and with Rose McIver at the wheel that’s a good thing. Her aggressive questioning and drunken attitude were fantastic. They really picked the right actress for this role.

I’m wondering if Clive is going to find out the truth this season. He’s a good detective and an obviously intelligent man, so it stands to reason that he will get what’s going on eventually. I think he’s usually too distracted by the cases to actually care about what’s going on with similar. Kind of like how Commissioner Gordon has to know Bruce Wayne is Batman or Perry White has to know Clark Kent is Superman. It does seem like he’s getting more and more suspicious of Liv’s extreme changes in personality and I’m sure he’ll eventually question why she’s acting like their murder victims all the time. Seeing her meal was interesting though, she’s just lucky it wasn’t one of her more obviously brainy choices.

While I’m curious as to whether or not Clive will discover Liv’s secret, I’m very certain that Major will. He’s been on the trail for a while and now, he’s met someone who knows what he has seen. Of course a mental hospital isn’t the greatest place to find people that can validate your stories, but this can go in a number of interesting directions. I hope this revelation comes with a phoenix-like rise from the ashes for major, because he has been having a Charlie Brown kind of time this whole season. I hope the writers are nice enough to cut him a break before the season finale.

Ravi is still holding his place as my favorite character. He’s the most intelligent, most charismatic and the most honest. I want to see more of his relationship with Peyton in the next few episodes, but as of right now he’s doing fine as Liv’s confidant and moral compass. They likely to only get closer since Lowell isn’t in the picture anymore. He is her true friend and is really there for her and is even willing to make the difficult calls when it’s for her own good. Getting her to sign the form to state Lowell’s suicide was rough, but he knew it had to be done. It’s very fortunate that they’re the medical examiners, or they would always have way too much to explain.

This was a really emotional episode on multiple levels. Liv tried to run from her problems, but only made them worse by eating an alcoholic brain (Which makes me wonder how she can get drunk if her heart doesn’t beat and she doesn’t bleed). The clincher though, is the fact that Liv has spawned a new zombie. This guy might love her for making him a much more dangerous killer or hate her for escaping him and cursing him with unlife. This one is the beginning of getting to the nitty gritty and it can only get better from here!
