Community: Season 6, Episode 6: Basic Email Security

Untitled-1

Computer viruses, the thing that all people fear, in the form of a green, flaming skull no less. Officer Cackowski makes a return appearance and he’s hilarious. He proves that pretty much everyone in the Greendale area is largely ineffectual. He really didn’t care about the issue at all. Honestly though, I can’t imagine a real police officer who would care very much about leaked emails.

It’s a pretty interesting commentary on a world that is obsessed with everyone else’s personal lives. People really would read every email of someone they know or a celebrity or even a complete unknown if there was something interesting enough to be seen. In this episode, everything was made into an open book for everyone to see.

Private conversations are not meant to be public, no matter what. Most people vent about others and say things about loved ones that sound harsh, but in no way diminish said love. The (former) study group learns this in their poorly conceived act of freedom fighting.

They allow their information to be leaked in defiance of a terrorist’s orders. Although they don’t really want to see him perform, hyper-offensive comedian Gupta Gupty Gupta is the tower they choose to uphold. It drives the entire school insane with the leaks of everyone’s information. They are made pariah’s and (with cameos from reoccurring characters Fat Neal, Leonard and Garrett) see what chaos can be unleashed by simply freeing information.

The chaos is absolutely unresolved by the end of the episode, but at least Cackowski and his prepubescent partner Warburton catch the underage culprit.

I loved the random recaps of previous events in older seasons. Mentioning Troy and      Pierce’s departures was interesting coming from Franky. Speaking of whom, it was also entertaining to see that the questions of her sexuality is an ongoing thing after the comment she made. The show is brilliant and I think the aftermath of this week will be interesting. Maybe there will be a few longterm consequences in store for us.
