Community: Season 6, Episode 8: Intro to Recycled Cinema
Yooba Dooba Dooba! Poor Abed, his friends are always asking him to make changes and compromising. He’s so different from everyone else, but also so likable. I think there were some issues with his character last season, but I think they’re finally ironing out the kinks. Abed without Troy was like peanut butter with no jelly. Still pretty good on a sandwich, but missing something. He’s still Abed and that’s always going to be a good thing.
Now he’s being forced to make a bad movie that he knows is bad. He is being forced to move on from incomplete scenes when he sees the things that can be improved. The result was a movie their hollywood executive friend loved and everyone agrees is pretty good. That’s saying something, because to anyone watching the episode, the movie looked like complete foolishness. Pretty funny though, seeing them use the footage of Chang for the movie.
Of course this was another moment of Chang reaching higher heights than anyone else, only to fail in the end. It was particularly funny to see him walk back into the study room and act nothing happened. I love it when the show is self-referential, like the acknowledgement of Buzz Hickey during the editing of the movie they made. If you’re a fan you’ll catch it. They always scheme to make money for Greendale, but it never works out. They didn’t exactly tell us what the result was, but things didn’t look good for the financial outcome.
Jeff and Britta showed their massive egos as usual. Jeff is obsessed with Chris Pratt like he always is when another man gets more attention than him. His fear of being less attractive than anyone else always seems to drive him crazy in hilarious ways. Always trying to play the part of the tough guy, it took way too much for him to admit his concerns and fears. He even strangled Abed near to death before admitting he felt inadequate.
Britta had to argue about her (not incorrect) feminist views. She always hates when normally conservative Annie sexualizes herself. It would be interesting to see a deeper reasoning behind it and I think we might eventually see it. This show isn’t exactly known for disappointing its fans, even when cast members leave. I would like to hear an explanation for Buzz’s departure though.
