Community: Season 6, Episode 12: Wedding Videography
This was one of the funniest episodes this show has had in its always hilarious history. Poor Garrett can never win in any situation. Last week I even thought he had a thing going with Vicki and I vaguely remember the two of them flirting a lot. I don’t recall ever seeing Stacy, but his proposal was such a great scene. Jeff’s surprise at her answer was particularly hilarious. Then it led to one of the most awkward weddings in TV history. The only wedding I think this series has done before was Shirley’s and that one was actually pretty beautiful. Garrett couldn’t catch such a break though.
From the moment I noticed Todd as the officiant, I knew things were not going to go well. Todd’s talks about the nature of God and just generally having a creepy look to him was terrible for everyone there. It was definitely topped by the late arrival of “the group” (I don’t suppose study group makes sense anymore). This group always does its best (worst) to steal the thunder at all times. Having Abed behind the camera didn’t do much to help things either.
After a stern talking to from Garrett’s mom, the group definitely does a bit better. Britta remains the worst but brings fun to the dance floor and everyone else improves the party with their presence. This is where Elroy shines! I didn’t expect this character to be this good when they introduced him at the beginning of the season, but man he was pure comedy gold here. His “addiction” could not have brought more laughs to my living room.
Jeff’s speech destroyed everything though. I mean, it was kind of good that everyone knows the truth, but it almost completely shut everything down. In a very out of left field, but appropriately insane move, Chang fixes everything and saves Garrett’s marriage. At least I suppose he fixes it, I’m really not sure how that works, but hey, Garrett and Stacey are happy!
The moment at the end from series staff writer Briggs Hatton was both informative and awkward. It was funny (especially the way they made Dan Harmon look), but it was really weird and it was kind of unclear as to whether it was sincere or serious. It just didn’t feel very jokey and was odd, but the episode was funny so it’s okay… I think.
