iZombie: Season 1, Episode 7: Maternity Liv
Finally the episode I saw four weeks in advance due to some Hulu error. It was an interesting one to say the least. One of the most interesting developments was Lowell having eaten a gay person’s brain, killing the chemistry between him and Liv. She even shuddered when they kissed. It was hilarious, but the better part was the fact that it also gave him a large amount of scientific know how. Finally Ravi had someone to talk to about his various zombie musings.
Ravi is definitely my favorite character, by the way. He seems to be a brilliant biologist and it makes me wonder how he ended up as the Seattle Police Department’s medical examiner. It seems like he might be more at home in a different kind of laboratory.
He seems to be happy where he is though. He has a lot of freedom to do what he wants and I’m sure being friend’s with zombies makes it even better. He can experiment all day with knowledge the rest of the world is oblivious to. How can any scientist not enjoy exploring the unknown? Other than that, he’s just a pleasant presence. He’s charming and funny and I don’t think any character has disliked him yet. The only character conflict he’s had so far was with Liv after she had eaten sociopath brains.
I’m starting to think Major is a bit of an idiot. I get that he cares about the kids he councils, but jeez man, be careful. The Candy Man beat him senseless, he still has the scars from it, but he refuses to stop going it alone. I mean he has the reporter on his side, but she seems to be much more interested in stories than actually helping. It’s actually pretty crazy how quick she was to write a story based on a single sentence from Clive, thus severing Major’s only connection to the police department. This episode didn’t end well for Major and I definitely don’t see it getting any better by the time we see next week’s episode.
Liv’s transformations continue to be the main selling point of this show for me. Her interactions with gay Lowell were pretty awesome and her newly acquired motherly instincts were hilarious. She treated everyone as if they were her children and even took her mother’s side against her brother. Her brother who I hope survives his possible employment by Blaine.
Now I’m curious about other zombies. Since their tastebuds are mostly dead, they have to add an abundant amount of spice to anything they consume in order to enjoy it. As a lover of spicy food myself, I know for a fact that hotter spices and especially hot sauces have distinctive smells. The right stuff will even change the natural scent of a person who eats enough. Most foods do that, but spicy stuff in particularly makes its way to the pores and sweat. I don’t know how good zombie noses are, but they really should be able to identify each other based solely on scent. Any humans who are paying attention should definitely notice the smell as well.
Lieutenant (which is a weirdly spelled word) Suzuki seems to have realized that Liv is also a zombie due to her wound. Maybe if she had any clue as that he’s one too, she might have noticed him realize that. He is over a bunch of detectives, after all. He should be able to figure things out. I can see why she wouldn’t suspect he knew though. It’s not like the world is aware of zombies. This could become a very interesting development.
The murder case itself was kind of crazy. A pair of fanatics who created their own religion kidnapping and killing women. Not impossible, but after seeing “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt” I could’ve gone without that plot. It was an interesting enough mystery and that newborn is probably screwed, since he has to live with his worthless father, but they technically won since they solved the murder. Better luck next time Liv and friends.
