Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 2, Episode 14: Love in the Time of Hydra
Finally, an explanation of what Mack and Bobbi are secretly up to. For some reason, my mind went straight to the fact that Bobbi was at one point a triple agent when she was infiltrating Hydra. The only problem is, I’m not totally buying it. I get the need and desire for multiple plot points to lead into better stories in the future, but the pacing here is kind of weird.
Why did they rush to close out the whole Hydra council arc they opened in that same episode, if they were going to just open more? For that matter, why would the “real S.H.I.E.L.D.” be upset with Coulson after he killed that same Hydra ruling council? Also, how can they be sure their version of the organization is free from Hydra corruption. I guess it was cool to see that this more secret (even though they said they prefer transparency) S.H.I.E.L.D. has far more resources than our main team, but I have to question where they’re going with this.
So now we have the Inhumans/Cal, Skye’s power problems, Ward/Agent 33, real S.H.I.E.L.D. and Baron Strucker (who was off-handedly mentioned during the Hydra council meeting). Do we have enough conflicts yet? Are we going to be introduced to even more or are we going to work toward some resolutions since we’re starting to get pretty late in the season?
I feel like this episode raised so many questions, but it was interesting to see what Ward and 33 have been up to. They more than easily infiltrated Talbot’s base and kidnapped Bakshi. I would think that a guy who is up to his waist in clandestine organizations would’ve been better prepared for this kind of invasion, but he wasn’t. Why? Because reasons. I suppose they just wanted to have a reason for that ridiculous personnel check scene.
Talbot said to make sure they didn’t see him anywhere he wasn’t supposed to be, but I suppose that same logic didn’t apply to any other male in the entire complex. Also Ward didn’t have a disguise. How did they get Bakshi out? I get that these two are immensely gifted spies, but come on, this was pushing it.
I feel like this episode was a bit of a letdown after the past few weeks of high intensity power chasing, but I suppose things have to be slowed down with so much more space in the season. I hope next week is a little less silly and a bit more enlightening.
