Castle: Season 7, Episode 19: Habeas Corpse

I’ve said it before: The supporting cast makes this show work and gives it a unique flavor. The background stories are often just as, if not more entertaining than the ones in the foreground. This was definitely the case in this episode.

Don’t get me wrong, the mystery in this episode was up to the show’s standards. It was definitely fun to see the gang deal with a couple of ambulance chasing lawyers. As usual, there were a few decent twists and turns in the solving of this murder. The best part was the fact that the suspect was the most obvious person this time. Lots of money can be gained from corporate sabotage, but none can be made from clearing one’s conscience. Pretty obvious motive for murder, but we’re so used to the mysteries on the show being much more complicated. We barely even got an red herrings in this episode.

The other side of the episode is what made it fun. The police talent show was the real selling point here. Fearless Kate Beckett finally reveals the thing she is afraid of. She has a paralyzing case of stage fright. Castle of course, had it in his mind to challenge the two-time champs Ryan and Esposito. He loves attention and bragging rights, but he loves his wife most of all so he manipulated events to get out of their bet without actually losing.

The lengths these guys went through to win were pretty hilarious. Esposito event went as far as to fake an injury to hustle his friend. To describe the entire scene and how much I enjoyed it would take far too much time and space, so I have no choice but to recommend a viewing of the episode. I have been a fan of this show for a while and I can guarantee the supporting cast and character interactions are the reason why.
