The Flash: Season 1, Episode 22: Rogue Air
Man, reverse flash is definitely an a**hole. He planned on killing all of Flash’s villains as an afterthought. They were just going to be collateral damage in his greater scheme of reactivating the particle accelerator. Barry, being the hero of heroes, decides he can’t let them die or set them free, so he decides to ship them to Lian Yu. This universe is definitely tied together really well. The references to Arrow characters are so well placed and organic that one never feels insulted or inspired to roll one’s eyes.
So Barry asks Joe to get the help of the police to bring the meta-humans to A.R.G.U.S. for further transport. Which is a little confusing, because A.R.G.U.S. is supposed to be a government organization. Can’t they just demand police help? Anyway, the police say no so Barry has to ask one of his greatest enemies to help. Enter Captain Cold and Golden Glider (I still don’t understand her gun. Does it melt then solidify things with some kind of golden sheen? Or does it turn them to gold? Or does it cover them in gold or a gold-like substance? Can we get an explanation on that weapon?) the evil brother and sister duo. How awesome was it to see the “Saints and Sinners” bar? I hope we get much more of that… maybe with a few less cold puns though, I saw “Batman and Robin” so I know how that can end badly.
Golden Glider constantly teases Cisco, who can hardly contain his boners when she’s around. Regardless of the torture and misery she brought upon him and his brother, you would think he would be over his crush, but no such maturity is to be found here. Which is honestly very fitting for his character. He’s a genius, but he’s still extremely childlike, which makes him perfect for his job, but lacking in other areas.
Of course Captain Cold can’t be trusted and he sabotages the whole plan to get an upper hand on Barry. The plane is destroyed, the truck’s power dampener is disabled and the villains go free without being allowed to murder Barry. Things are gonna suck for Central City and probably its surrounding areas for a little while. I do like how cold (Damn it! Now I’m making cold puns!) and calculating Captain Cold is. He’s definitely a villain that’s worthy of attention. He was even smart enough to leave his pet loose cannon at home. I’m sure Heatwave would have demolished this plan. I do hope we get to see Heatwave’s reaction to Firestorm someday though.
That’s kind of where I expected the episode to end since I wasn’t paying close attention to the running time because it fits the format of a show like this. Turns out that it was only half of the awesome! Reverse Flash shows up, probably to gloat, only to find that Flash expected him and invited Firestorm and the Arrow (real life cousins) to the party. Oliver is even wearing his League of Assassins uniform. Honestly makes one wonder why he didn’t get them to help with the whole transportation fiasco, because he said he couldn’t get their help earlier in the episode. I guess they were free for this part. Anyway, after an extremely awesome action sequence, they defeat Reverse Flash. This leaves them in a VERY interesting place for next week’s finale. Definitely excited about it.
