The Flash: Season 1, Episode 20: The Trap
This episode was epic. Very hero versus villain in its vibe. Reverse-Flash, who name is decidedly not ridiculous here, is turning out to be a pretty awesome bad guy. The crew has decided to set a trap for him by recreating Cisco’s alternate memories, but it definitely didn’t work out. He knew all along and it was delightfully sneaky for the writers to keep his entire surveillance operation out of that previous episode. It seemed as though he had simply caught Cisco in the act before, but he knew all along. I’m excited about the rest of the season now and very pumped up to see these last three or so episodes.
The crazy thing is the rumor’s we’ve heard of Killer Frost and Vibe making their official powered appearances this season. I think that might be pushing it after Arrow, the Atom and Firestorm, but these writers have yet to let me down so far. I am definitely noticing a kind of similarity between Cisco and Caitlin and Fitz-Simmons from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. though. Gifted male and female scientist duo. One is the tech, the other is the biology. Apparently Cisco is the most gifted tech guy in the universe though. I know this was a few episodes ago, but he made a freaking gold gun. I still haven’t gotten over that. Why isn’t he the richest man alive again?
It was cool that Everyman made another appearance, but I think more could’ve been done with him before they just killed him off, but they did the same thing with Girder and Plastique. They are fairly minor players though and the DCU is FULL of villains and other potential threats for the Flash to face. The big one they killed was Simon Stagg. I suppose that means we won’t be seeing Metamorpho anytime soon, but it was cool to see Harrison Wells show himself in that instance.
I am a huge fan of time travel and even though they went there pretty early in this series, it’s keeping things exciting for me. Knowledge of the future is a very dangerous thing and can cause various paradoxes and ripples in the time-stream, but Barry saw a huge amount of information at the start of this episode. It remains to be seen if he will be able to contain his knowledge of this information.
That being said, I doubt he’ll be able to avoid letting this knowledge affect his decisions. Like Cisco pointed out, time can have a cyclical effect and knowledge of the future can actually cause the same future. Barry has already started to act weird about his knowledge of his future marriage to Iris. I suspect this will put a severe strain on his friendship with Eddie. I feel bad for Eddie, because it seems like everyone is against him. Maybe his fate is the catalyst for Eobard’s hatred, maybe not. I guess we don’t have a choice but to wait and see. I’m sure Iris learning Barry’s identity won’t help that out any.
