Limitless: Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot

I loved Limitless. The movie I mean. With all of the movies becoming TV series lately (Dominion, Scream, Minority Report, etc.), this is probably the one I had the highest expectations for. I really enjoyed the pilot, but it seems to be heading in a kind of formulaic direction. The outcast with powers or a unique perspective helping out the local law enforcement is a somewhat milked idea. Don’t get me wrong, some of these shows are gold, and though it is tried, it is also true. It’s a formula that works and this one seems to be joining the pack. If they keep the science interesting, it’ll probably run for a while.

NZT is honestly my dream drug. I definitely wish it was real, especially if they have the shot Brian received in this episode. I could see myself getting so much done in my hectic life. But anyway, Jennifer Carpenter and Jake McDorman are selling it as the leads and seeing Bradley Cooper return as Senator Eddie Morra was awesome. The world they’re in is very consistent with that of the movie and it’s very enjoyable.

The discovery and journey for more NZT was very well written. It was fairly similar to Eddie’s journey in the movie, but a little more personally involved. I actually didn’t see the small twist coming when he discovered who killed his old friend. Brian is a good guy and he made his mission saving his father, character motivations are always a key part of entertainment, and everything made sense here. Let’s keep things going and vary it up a bit in future episodes. Please don’t get shuffled in the pile Limitless.
