Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 2, Episode 15: One Door Closes
So we’re definitely back to the whole “spy versus spy” theme. I’ll be honest, I’m kind of over it. I’m not really enjoying the whole S.H.I.E.L.D. versus S.H.I.E.L.D. arc. It’s just not interesting to me. I would very much rather they be facing Hydra instead. I mean I understand that any organization this big being taken down would splinter into multiple factions, but how is it that the team that was officially given the reigns by Nick Fury is such an under dog? Why does this other group have so many more resources? Was Fury that terrible of a leader?
I feel this season doing the opposite of last season and becoming less interesting as it goes on. Its sad because I’m sure this is another adverse effect of being in a shared universe. The movies get all of the good stuff. There’s a lot left to work with for this show (they got the freakin’ Absorbing Man, powered down a bit, but he’s a big deal), but they seem to be trying their hardest to stay as grounded as possible. That’s a problem. Marvel has to soar! Staying grounded is the route DC is taking and it’s far less exciting. I guess they’re trying to be conservative just in case they want to use the big stuff in the movies. I don’t know, but they need to bring it!
There are just too many low to mid level threats for them to be fighting each other and just randomly made up threats. Don’t get me wrong, some of the stuff is good, but why aren’t they going for the gold. Their big villain for season one was Deathlok for crying out loud! If it wasn’t for the Hydra twist it would’ve completely lost me.
Right now the only thing keeping me around is the Inhumans. The only problem is that they’re moving so slow with that. Where are they going with it? Are they going to have an actually populated version of Attilan? Will they show the Royal Family? Who was it that Cal/Hyde had to go talk to? How much are they going to reveal here? The Inhumans movie is a long way off, so what’s the plan here.
I just felt myself kind of numb this week. I really just don’t care about the “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.” at all. The flashbacks meant nothing an I’m not even sure I love these characters enough to care about the outcome. Everyone is trying to hard to be bada**es that everyone is becoming a little stale. I think the only cast members I like are Fitz and Ward. Especially since Triplett (the black guy whose background they never explained) died. Let’s pick it up guys, I hope next week is much better. Please end this arc as soon as possible. I doubt I’m alone in this.
