Community: Season 6, Episode 11: Modern Espionage
Paintball is one of the strongest gimmicks this show has used over the years. It’s usually reserved for season finales or two parters, but here they’ve found a way to make it fun and creative yet again. Considering the amount of paintball episodes that exist, you would think it would be an old and stale plot device, but not at all.
The way it was done here was genius. Since Franky is around and way too unforgiving to cross, paintball has had to go underground. Usually it’s a school wide phenomenon that ends in chaos, but now it’s much more quiet and there’s a silver paint assassin on the loose, hilariously dubbed “Silverballs.”The gang has to track him down and the responsibility is left to Jeff who, other than Franky and Dean Pelton, is the only one who isn’t in on the game. Literally everyone else has paintball guns, which is revealed when Chang tries to betray and “kill” everyone in the group.
Jeff is still supremely talented at paintball and shocks everyone who tries to shoot him by turning their weapons on them. The “I don’t care” attitude he carries at the beginning of the episode is hilarious. Jeff winger is a great character and this was a good way to show who he is and the plot was pretty serious and engaging. The stakes were even pretty high.
We got some pretty good recurring character appearances here. There was even the return of “Star Burns” who we haven’t seen all season and who got expelled by Franky immediately after his first appearance. Things went well and hilariously as always. This is proving to be an excellent season at Greendale Community College.
