How to Make a Modern Woman Act Like a Traditional Lady by Jessica Bordelon
This is a new thing I’m getting into with this blog. I’m officially calling them “Domestic Assessments.” They are reviews of the work of homegrown heroes. Leave your email address in the comments if you have anything you would like for me to review. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. That being said, let’s get to it:
At first glance I was kind of cautious stepping into this. The title is a little abrasive and a lot of women I know would likely scoff and dismiss this book, judging it by its cover. Fortunately women aren’t the primary target demographic for this “love advice for men” style book. There’s plenty for women within these pages and I think most women would benefit from reading it, but I think ANY man interested in a long term relationship should give this one a look.
Once I read the name of the first chapter I was intrigued. “How to Know Crazy When You See Crazy.” I had to investigate. The level of insight is delightful. These are all lessons that take a lifetime of mistakes and failed relationships to learn for most smarter men. Truth be told, a lot of men might never learn these lessons, regardless of experience. Stubbornness is a defining trait of the modern man, but I hope anyone who opens this book does so with an open mind. You will leave feeling much more focused and confident in your future relationship decisions. I actually haven’t been in a serious relationship for over six years and now I feel better about giving the next woman I’m interested in a shot.
When and why to commit, when and why to have sex, how to get what you want, when and why to marry, etc. Ms. Bordelon truly keeps her promise of breaking “girl code” and hits with an honest look at the female mind that most of us men might never have seen. She even goes as far as to offer further reading in the form of her website (which I will post below). In fact, she freely gives her email address for those who need more personalized advice for couples’ activity ideas.
The book has a very laid back and familiar tone. For the more casual reader this relaxed syntax and terminology should help get through it. That and the book’s short length. It is a pillar of brevity in the sense that it packs a colossal amount of information in a very short amount of space.
The only problem I have with the book is the lack of page numbers. There’s a lot of information one should refer back to, but it kind of has to be looked for. Again though, the book is brief so looking for a particular chapter isn’t that hard. I just hope someday Jessica Bordelon makes a pocket version of this precious tomb so guys can always keep them handy.
